1. Introduction

The content of this manual has been written in a succinct style which is intended to be accessible to a wide range of users from all the agencies that are partners in the SPB and the third sector.

The manual has been organised with the Core Procedures in the most prominent place. These chapters explain the actions that must be taken when there are concerns about the welfare of a child.

2. About this Manual

This is the first operational web enabled version of the Jersey Safeguarding Children Partnership Board (SPB) Procedures.

All previous versions should be discarded.

If you are asked to make an amendment to an existing chapter in the manual for inclusion at the next update, or if you have any queries or suggestions, please contact safeguardingpartnershipboard@gov.je.

3. Amendments

This manual will be updated on a regular basis and a summary of the new and updated chapters will be located here. Additionally, the next planned manual update will be in March 2018.

The process for updating will be agreed in advance between the SPB and tri.x and it will take the form of suggestions from tri.x of additions and amendments plus the inclusion or referencing of work generated by the SPB.

4. Keywords & Glossary

Keywords

NOTE: Some Keyword definitions may not apply in Jersey.

The manual is accessed by practitioners from varying agencies, who may find terms that they are not familiar with. Therefore, a large resource (Keywords) of terms is available such as Care Plan can be accessed by clicking on the highlighted text.

The intention of the keywords is twofold:

  • To ensure that definitions remain accurate and consistent throughout the manual;
  • To avoid cluttering the content of the chapters up with repetitive definitions.

The definitions will appear in a new window or tab, depending on your browser. You can leave it open for reference, or close it using the "close" button at the bottom.

Many Keywords are highlighted in the body of procedures however; you can also browse the full keyword resource using the menu bar on the left hand side of the screen.
